Welcome to This Old Soul!
My name is Elizabeth and I’m the creator behind This Old Soul. I started this blog to inspire you to:
- learn how to reconnect with others through simplicity
- pause in the challenges and hardships
- soak in the beauty and the victories
- be comfortable in the still silences
For many living in a modern, fast-paced, technology driven world, finding simplicity is challenging. As someone who defines myself as an old soul, I enjoy walking with others as we contemplate what life is all about.
My husband, daughter, and I live in the Bay Area. We love it here!
Here are 10 things you might enjoy knowing about me:
1. I love living by the ocean. The sound of the waves crashing against the sand is the white noise I need. It’s where I’ve written lyrics to some of my best songs.
2. On the topic of music, I have two degrees in music (BA Music Theory/Composition and MA in Musicology). I am constantly listening to, writing, or playing music. Studying classical women composers is another huge passion of mine.
3. My coffee drink of choice is a flat white with honey (my husband introduced me to this delightful concoction), but if we are home, french press coffee with a little milk also satisfies the craving.
4. Letter writing is something I started in college when I moved abroad to Vienna, Austria for a semester. I haven’t looked back!
5. I so enjoy pausing in life’s pleasures (check out Mary Black’s version of the song “Hard Times” to know why I love this concept).
6. Reading is a habit I enjoy daily, whether it’s before my daughter is awake in the morning, in the evening as a way to wind down before sleep, or in snippets during the day. Fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, craft books, you name it, we probably have it (or it’s on a wish list!).
7. I was a competitive Irish dancer for over 10 years and competed both nationally and internationally. Even though I’ve retired my shoes from competition life, I still pull out my ghillies and hardshoes on occasion (or on St. Patrick’s Day).
8. Crafting is a passion I’ve had for a long time, but I’ve come to truly enjoy it in my adult years. You can find me in my little craft nook crocheting, knitting, embroidering, sewing, drawing, card-making, basically whatever strikes me that day. I always have a project going!
9. I truly strive to unplug in this technology and social media driven world, and I am still a person in progress.
10. My husband and I are constantly learning what it means to follow Jesus everyday.
